A Word from the NextGEN Director
What is “NextGEN:12->24”?
NextGEN:12->24 is the name of our ministry for ages 12 to 24 years old. We are a faith community, intentional about being continuously connected from junior high through college/career and beyond. Our faith community embraces a wider scope of ages in one combined gathering because we believe there is health in a “three-tiered age” mentorship model (i.e. up, down, and across). Wisdom flows to and from these age points. We believe people learn best while doing life together rather than when siloed by age.
All pastoral staff and volunteers working with NextGEN:12->24, ages 18 and older, have passed a criminal background check prior and character reference before receiving a “green-light” to serve. Leadership is given opportunity for continuing education around serving this population and subjected to frequent reviews to be proactive in nature.
Attendees of this faith community, over age 18, but NOT designated as leadership, are NOT required to obtain background checks. This is no different from any visitor coming to our church. Leadership is aware of non-traditional age gaps within our faith community, and we have security measures and protocol in place, to foster a safe, healthy community while still embracing this paradigm of continuous connectivity.
Each Sunday, from 5-7pm, we gather together for relationship, encouragement, and equipping, so we can be the most effective ambassadors for Jesus in our respective spheres of influence; social mosaics. (i.e. school, work, family, home, events, etc…)
Each Sunday, after second service worship, we offer a leadership class for juniors and seniors in High School. We meet in Pastor Paul’s office.
Each Wednesday, from 7-9pm, a group dedicated to deep worship, prophetic encouragement, prayer, and singer/songwriter mentorship, meet at Pastor Paul & Alisha’s house.
Occasionally, we will go out as a group for a fun event such as laser tag or going to the movies. This is a time of fellowship for us to connect with one another, and have some fun! Check out our upcoming events on the Homepage or the Events page for more information.
This is not the age bracket to withdraw from, but rather to press into. While your young adult may ask for some space for independence, there is always another looking for a positive role model. Our leadership team is always looking for a diverse range of age and backgrounds, rooted in Christ, to serve alongside us in this exciting community of faith. Consistency, grace, and continuous affirmation of these young adults outweigh any inadequacies you might feel.
We’re always happy to talk with you in person on Sunday to answer more questions. You can also email anytime: firstname.lastname@example.org
